About Why cycles we are wrote already when we presented their macadamkarja , so we won't go into much detail about the brand. In short: it's an American bike brand that offers frames made entirely of titanium. It's under the same roof, management, and ownership as the slightly more gravity-oriented Revel Bikes. The El Jefe is their latest model , designed as a playful, versatile bike that works well on both longer trips and local xc races.
About the model
You could say it's about the simplest mountain bike frame , which has a suspension fork installed, and there would be nothing wrong with that. But the matter is still a bit more complicated and is thought out to the smallest detail. At Why, they wanted a fast bike for longer tours and competitions in the “wilderness”. This means a bike that is as simple and light as possible, made of good materials and with a geometry that also allows the cyclist some adjustment to personal preferences. The main culprit for the final product is the long-time friend of the brand owners and their ambassador Jefe Branham – hence the name El Jefe.
Specification
The presented bike was assembled as a single-speed bike, but in the future it will also be equipped with a Sram AXS 1×12 gear system if necessary. All components are prepared in such a way that the conversion is very easy and can be completed in just ten minutes thanks to the wireless gear system. Special features of the bike include: wheels , assembled from Silent fists Onyx Vesper and Revel fusion fiber carbon rings . For gourmets, there are also Cane Creek titanium crankset and titanium Why handlebars. The choice of tires is also interesting, as Tine fitted the wheels with fast and durable Teravail Honcho tires. What about brakes ? They ensure safe stopping Hope Tech3 E4 .
For whom?
For the cyclist who wants the simplicity and playfulness of a hardtail and the lightness of titanium. It is suitable for bikepacking, marathons, short and long tours. The movable rear suspension makes the frame ideal for conversion to a single-speed bike.
What went wrong?
As already mentioned, Tine was just waiting for him . Meanwhile, probably lost a few months , if not years of life . Since this is a boutique brand with a small production run, a slightly longer waiting time for the delivery of the frame and some components is not so unexpected. However, D-Day was getting further and further away . During this time, The dollar has strengthened , postage has increased, and all of this means an additional cost that is mostly hidden from customers. Since it is an American brand, there is also the unpredictable customs, where duties are fixed on paper, but due to events around the world, another clause is quickly thrown in, which increases the final cost even further.
Fortunately, this did not happen this time, but there was another complication. Package with the frame and some components, on the way from America to Slovenia it got lost at American customs , despite the “express” shipping option and all the tracking systems, this can still happen. Luckily, after three weeks it was found on the other side of the country and the package was finally on its way to the store. All’s well that ends well… just eight months waiting instead of promised two .
